In the City of Berwyn, Illinois, a property becomes a local historic landmark only when the City Council enacts a designating ordinance. The seven-member Historic Preservation Commission holds a hearing and votes first, then the Council has 60 days to act by simple majority of the full Council. A nomination costs $500 unless the Commission files it.
