Pool Permits

Evanston requires a building permit before any in-ground or substantial above-ground residential pool goes in, issued by Building and Development Services under the adopted 2021 International Building Code. Small prefab above-ground pools no deeper than 24 inches and under 1,200 gallons skip the permit, but every pool, permitted or not, must sit at least 10 feet from any property line and stay inside a rear yard in a residential district.
