Hurricane Katrina (Aug. 29, 2005) drove a 28-foot storm surge across Gulfport and forced the largest rewrite of the city's flood rules in its history. Gulfport adopted FEMA's revised Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) and amended Appendix B - Flood Damage Prevention of the Code of Ordinances.
