Lawton requires a building permit for any swimming pool 24 inches deep or greater under Section 6-1-1-107(A)(1)(c). Even shallower manmade bodies of water at least a foot deep must still meet the separate safety standard in Section 6-1-5-183, permit or not.

Construction or installation of swimming pools that are twenty-four (24) inches deep or greater. Swimming pools requiring a permit by this code shall be in accordance with the adopted building codes and Administrative Policy 6-5. All manmade bodies of water at least one (1) foot in depth regardless if a permit is required or not shall be in accordance with Section 6-1-5-183 of this code.

Fencing & Safety Requirements

Lawton City Code Section 6-1-5-183 requires every private swimming pool at least one foot deep to sit behind a fence or solid barrier at least four feet tall with no gap wide enough to pass a four-inch sphere. Gates must self-close and self-latch so they stay securely shut whenever the pool is not in use.
