Section 6-1-1-107(A)(1)(c) lists 'construction or installation of swimming pools that are twenty-four (24) inches deep or greater' among the specific improvements that trigger the building permit requirement of Section 6-1-1-107(A). A pool needing a permit under this rule must also comply with the adopted building codes (the city has adopted the 2018 International Building Code and International Residential Code by reference) and with Administrative Policy 6-5. The code separately provides that all manmade bodies of water at least one foot deep, regardless of whether a permit is required, must comply with Section 6-1-5-183.

75. As with other building permits, the application must include duplicate scaled plans under Section 6-1-1-107(B), and the permit runs on the standard construction timeline set out in Section 6-1-1-108, generally one year for new work unless it is a remodel or repair to existing construction, which expires in 180 days. Working on a pool without a permit, or after the permit lapses, exposes the owner to citation under the code's general penalty provisions.
