Lawton, OK Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

1(A)(4) bars any wall, fence, sign, structure or plant growth taller than 2 feet 6 inches above the roadway crown within a corner lot's sight triangle. Where the street right-of-way is 50 feet or less, the triangle runs 25 feet along the front or rear and side lot lines from their intersection; on rights-of-way over 50 feet fronting a minor street it extends 45 feet along the curb line, and no car may park or curb be cut back within that triangle. 1(A)(8)(b)(2)(e) sets the front-yard fence cap: a fence or wall extending past the front building limit line cannot exceed 4 feet, unless it sits in the P-F Public Facilities District, an Industrial District, or on Lawton Public Schools property, where it may reach 6 feet only if built of open wrought iron, aluminum, or vinyl-coated chain link approved by the planning director, kept fully non-opaque above 4 feet, with support posts no wider than 18 square inches spaced at least 6 feet apart.

Side and rear fences under subsection (h) may rise to 8 feet above the ground at the fence's base or 8 feet above grade at the house, whichever is higher, but never exceed 10 feet measured at the fence's own base. Anyone needing more height for security or privacy must seek planning commission review under Section 18-113, and fences may not obstruct the view from a private driveway.
