Solicitor Permits

Milwaukee requires door-to-door solicitors and peddlers to obtain a license under Chapter 81 of the Code of Ordinances. Applicants must submit to a background check, provide identification, and pay the applicable fee. Licensed solicitors must carry their permit and present it upon request. Solicitation is prohibited before 9:00 AM and after 9:00 PM. Religious and political canvassing is exempt from the permit requirement under First Amendment protections.
