North Charleston requires every business building in the city to be ratproofed and kept free of rats under the direction of the health officer, per Code of Ordinances § 9-107. Owners who receive a written ratproofing order must complete the work within the deadline set, never less than fifteen days, or face a misdemeanor charge under § 9-108. Occupants must also act within three days of a rat-infestation notice.
