Card Room Licensing

Ontario Municipal Code Sec. 5-5.01 makes it unlawful to play, maintain, or operate draw poker or any other card game for money, chips, or tokens anywhere a charge is made for tables, chairs, cards, or admission. The city has never adopted a licensing ordinance for commercial card rooms, so pay-to-play card games are flatly prohibited citywide.

It shall be unlawful to play, maintain, or operate the game of draw poker or any other card game in the City for money, chips, tokens, or any other thing where such playing, maintenance, or operation is in a room, hall, place of business, or any public place and where a charge is made as a rental for the use of tables, chairs, cards, or any other equipment or for admission or membership fees.
