In Peoria, the owner or lessee of any lot abutting a public sidewalk must keep it in good repair for safe pedestrian use under City Code Sec. 23-40. Abutting owners also owe a duty to keep sidewalks free of litter, overgrown vegetation and hazards, and can be held liable for injuries caused by a defective sidewalk they failed to repair.
