Dark Sky Rules
Yakima does not have a stand-alone dark-sky ordinance. Outdoor lighting is regulated through the Yakima Urban Area Zoning Ordinance at YMC Title 15 - principally YMC Chapter 15.05 (Site Design and Improvement Standards) and YMC Chapter 15.06 (Off-Street Parking and Loading), which require parking-area lighting to be directed away from adjacent properties and downshielded. Washington State has no comprehensive statewide dark-sky law. Yakima County's separate zoning code at YCC Chapter 19.10 requires fully-shielded exterior lighting in unincorporated areas.
