Lincoln County, NC Code Violation Reporting: How to Report (2026)

Chapter 95's Reporting a Hazard or Violation article sets the channels in § 95.161. A hazard or violation "may be reported at any time." During normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., a report goes to the Fire Marshal's office at 704-736-8516. After hours, or on a county holiday, it goes to the County Communications Center's non-emergency line at 704-736-0282. A report of an active fire or emergency is made by dialing 911, not either of the other two numbers. § 95.162 then lists what a complaint must contain to be processed: the name of the person filing it; that person's address and telephone number; the location of the hazard or violation; and the type of problem, hazard, or violation. § 95.163 requires the Fire Marshal's office to keep a written record of every complaint received, attach a report describing the investigation, and note the violations or hazards found and the action taken, so a complaint becomes part of a retained county file rather than an informal call. § 95.160 frames the whole article: the Fire Marshal's office responds to complaints about life safety hazards, illegal burning, and other fire code or fire ordinance violations countywide.
