Fence Permit Requirements
Berkeley County only requires a building permit for fences built of solid masonry or solid steel that reach six feet or more in height, per Sec. 11-94 of the county code. Wood, chain-link, and other fence types are exempt from the permit requirement regardless of height under the county's amendment to the adopted building code.

Fences constructed of solid masonry or solid steel six feet in height or greater will require a permit. Fees shall be based on $15.00 per linear foot of fence to determine cost of construction. At time of application for permit, design professional drawings will be required and must be designed to meet applicable wind and seismic loads.
