Boone County's solid waste code treats discarded needles, syringes, scalpels and glass vials as infectious waste that cannot go out as ordinary trash. Anyone generating sharps must separate and label them at the point of use and pack them in closable, rigid, leakproof, puncture-resistant, color-coded containers before disposal.
