Solicitor Permits

Anyone going door to door in unincorporated Fauquier County to sell goods or services, or to seek charitable donations, is a 'solicitor' under Sec. 18-1 and must register with the Sheriff's Office before entering any residential property. Sec. 18-2 through 18-4 spell out the required information, the permit itself, and a nonrefundable $20 processing fee.

Fauquier County backs up its solicitor permit system with entry limits: Sec. 18-5 bars anyone from soliciting under false pretenses, from remaining after being told to leave, or from entering a residential property at all once the owner has posted a 'No Soliciting' sign. Soliciting without a permit is likewise prohibited outright.
