Marathon County bars owners from letting a dog disturb neighbors with frequent or habitual howling, barking, or yelping, but only in unincorporated towns that haven't adopted their own dog ordinance under state law.

No person shall own or keep a dog and allow such dog to disturb other people by frequent or habitual howling, barking or yelping. The provision of this ordinance [chapter] shall not apply to licensed animal kennels, shelters, or hospitals.

Vehicle Noise

On Marathon County's designated ATV/UTV routes and trails, every all-terrain and utility-terrain vehicle must run a muffler or noise-suppressing system in good working order at all times -- the rule targets excessive exhaust noise, not car stereos or engine brakes.

(vii)Every ATV or UTV shall be equipped, maintained, and operated to prevent excessive or unusual noise. No person shall operate an ATV or UTV on an ATV/UTV Route unless the vehicle is equipped with a muffler or other effective noise-suppressing system in good working order and in constant operation.
