Rodent Control

Sarasota County's Building Official can force rodent extermination before an unsafe structure comes down. Under Building Code § 103.5.7, once the County Health Officer confirms rodent infestation in a structure slated for demolition or removal, the Building Official may require a licensed pest control operator to exterminate the rodents so they don't scatter into neighboring properties.

103.5.7 Authority to Order Rodent Control. When the County Health Officer verifies the existence of rodent infestation in a structure that is to be demolished or removed, the Building Official may require that a licensed pest control operator exterminate the rodents using ectoparasite control measures to preclude the migration of rodents.
