Grant County, WA Curfew Laws: Juvenile Curfew (2026)

GCC 6.28.030 makes it unlawful for a juvenile to remain in any public place or establishment during curfew hours, but lists eleven complete defenses: being accompanied by a parent or authorized adult, running an errand at a parent's direction, interstate travel, going to or from work, an emergency, being on the sidewalk abutting the juvenile's own residence (if the resident does not complain to the sheriff), attending a supervised school, religious, or recreational activity, going to or from a theater or sporting event with proof of a ticket stub, exercising First Amendment rights, being married or emancipated, or finishing lawful commercial activity begun before curfew.

GCC 6.28.040 separately makes it unlawful for a parent, guardian, or other adult with custody to knowingly permit or, through insufficient control, allow a juvenile to violate curfew, or to fail to appear and retrieve a child after a law enforcement contact under the temporary custody procedure in GCC 6.28.060; a parent who is reasonably hindered from appearing has a complete defense. Officers may stop and briefly detain a juvenile to obtain identifying information and, if a violation is found, deliver the juvenile home, to an extended family member, or to the Sheriff's Office pending a parent's arrival (GCC 6.28.050, 6.28.060).

Violations proceed as civil infractions under the traffic-infraction procedures of RCW Chapter 46.63, and a court may substitute community service for all or part of a fine (GCC 6.28.070).
