Spokane has a juvenile curfew under SMC 10.10: minors under 18 may not be in public places between midnight and 6 AM, or between 10 PM and 6 AM for those under 14, with limited exceptions for work, school events, or parental accompaniment.
Spokane Municipal Code Chapter 10.10 establishes one of the stricter juvenile curfews in Washington. Minors under 14 are prohibited from public places between 10 PM and 6 AM. Minors aged 14 through 17 must be off public streets, parks, and businesses between midnight and 6 AM. Exceptions apply when the minor is accompanied by a parent or guardian, traveling to or from work with documentation, attending a school or religious function with reasonable transit time, responding to an emergency, on errand with specific parental direction, or exercising First Amendment rights. Parents who knowingly permit violations can also be cited. Officers contacting curfew violators typically transport juveniles home or to a designated safe place. The ordinance has survived constitutional challenges and is enforced particularly during summer months. Repeat violations may trigger referral to juvenile court diversion.
Civil infraction up to $250 for the minor and/or parent; repeated offenses may trigger diversion or parental responsibility proceedings.
