Suffolk enforces a juvenile curfew under City Code § 54-156: minors under 16 may not be in public places from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and those 16 or 17 from midnight to 5 a.m. Violations are a Class 4 misdemeanor.
Suffolk City Code § 54-156 makes it unlawful for any minor under 16 to remain on streets, in parks, or in other public places between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., and for minors ages 16 to 17 between midnight and 5:00 a.m. Parents and guardians who knowingly permit a violation are equally liable. Exceptions cover a minor accompanied by a parent or guardian, or on an emergency errand or legitimate business with a signed written statement. Officers may issue a summons to juvenile court and take the minor home. Adopted under Code of Virginia § 15.2-926.
A curfew violation is a Class 4 misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $250 under City Code § 1-14. Officers may detain a minor and summon the parent or guardian to juvenile and domestic relations court.
