City Code § 58-6 sets the hours of operation at all Suffolk city parks as dawn to dusk, unless a park is posted with different hours or a permit authorizes use beyond normal operating hours. The rule was adopted by Ordinance 23-O-021 in February 2023 as part of a rewrite of the parks chapter. After-hours presence, along with any other violation of Chapter 58, is enforced by the Department of Parks and Recreation and Suffolk police. Alcohol, open fires outside designated areas, and unleashed animals are separately prohibited within city parks.
Under City Code § 58-17, violating any parks provision, including being in a park after dusk, is a Class 4 misdemeanor with a fine up to $250. Violators may also be ejected from the park or facility.
