Kent parks are closed to the public from dusk (or 10 p.m., whichever is later) until 6 a.m. under KCC 4.01 Parks Rules. Violators are subject to trespass citations and may be asked to leave by Kent Police.
Kent City Code Chapter 4.01 (Parks and Recreation) governs conduct in all city-owned parks, including Lake Meridian Park, Morrill Meadows Park, Kent Memorial Park, Kiwanis Tot Lot #4, Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks Park, Van Doren's Landing, and the Green River Trail. Kent parks close daily from dusk (or 10:00 p.m., whichever is later, depending on park) until 6:00 a.m. Posted park signs at entrances display the exact closing hours for each park. Activities prohibited after hours include entering or remaining in the park, consumption of alcohol or drugs, camping or sleeping, and vehicle entry. Dog parks and certain lighted facilities may have different hours posted at the specific location. Kent Parks also has seasonal hours for ballfields and community centers that are posted on the City website. Violations of park curfew are enforced under KCC 4.01.020 and can result in a trespass warning (exclusion from the park for up to a year), a civil infraction of 250 dollars, or in some cases misdemeanor criminal trespass under RCW 9A.52.080. The Green River Trail and Interurban Trail are regional trails with different hours managed by King County. Special event permits (KCC 4.01.070) allow authorized after-hours activities. Contact Kent Parks at 253-856-5100 or Kent Police at 253-856-5800 for after-hours concerns.
Trespass in a closed park can result in a park exclusion notice (up to 1 year), civil infraction of 250 dollars, or misdemeanor criminal trespass charges under RCW 9A.52.080 with fines up to 1,000 dollars.
