Hours and after-hours presence in unincorporated San Mateo County parks are governed by County Code Title 3, Chapter 3.68 (County Park and Recreation Area Rules). County Parks publishes standard day-use hours: parks open at 8:00 A.M. and close at a preset time prior to sunset (the exact closing time varies seasonally with sunset). Section 3.68.080 (General Protective Regulations) makes it unlawful for any person to remain in any County park or recreation area, on the San Francisco Fish and Game Refuge, or in any facility within them after the posted closing time, unless that person has lawful business there. Day-use areas are not for overnight stays; overnight camping is allowed only in designated campgrounds (such as Memorial Park and Coyote Point RV sites) under permit, where posted quiet hours (for example, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. at San Bruno Mountain camping) apply. Other park rules in Title 3.68 and County Parks regulations prohibit fireworks, drones, and (in most parks) dogs, and ban smoking on County beaches, parks, and trails. The closing time is posted at each park, so visitors must leave before the posted closing hour.
