Redwood City, CA Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

230, adopted by Ordinance No. 2409 in November 2014 within Division 15 of Chapter 20, authorizes the City Manager or a designee to designate specific curbside parking spaces as Electric-Charging Parking spaces, to charge drivers for the electricity their vehicles draw, and to limit use of those spaces to electric vehicles only, all under the terms of the City's Electric-Charging Parking Program as set by Council resolution. 108, which lists electric-charging zones among the categories, together with loading zones, passenger loading zones, handicapped zones and Car Share zones, that the City Manager may mark by signage, curb paint, or both, in any business district or in front of any place of public assembly.

108 also caps how much curb length any one block can dedicate to these designated-use purposes: no more than one-half of the total curb length in a block may be reserved for loading-zone-type purposes, and electric-charging zones must be indicated by signage that complies with the California Vehicle Code. 109's general rule on curb markings applies: no person may stop, stand or park a vehicle adjacent to a legible curb marking or posted sign in violation of the restriction it indicates, whether that marking designates a red no-parking zone, a green 20-minute zone, or, as here, an electric-charging-only space set up under the City's program.
