York County, VA Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 17-102 lets the appropriate governing official establish a schedule of visiting hours for all or part of any public area and close portions of it, including the Yorktown Waterfront, whenever necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of persons or property, by posting appropriate signs. All persons must observe posted signs marking closed areas and visiting hours, and use of a closed portion is by permit only. A distinctive local check applies to the Yorktown Waterfront specifically: any establishment or change to its visiting-hours schedule requires the expressed written concurrence of the Yorktown Trustees, a body separate from the county administration.

Section 17-54 backs this with a flat, standalone prohibition: no person shall enter an area posted as "Closed to the Public," regardless of the reason for the posting. Enforcement runs through Sec. 17-3(a), which authorizes the appropriate governing official to eject or have ejected from a public area any person violating any Chapter 17 provision, including the hours and closure rules. Unless a section provides otherwise, Sec. 17-4(a) makes a Chapter 17 violation a Class 4 misdemeanor, punished as provided by general law, and Sec. 17-4(b) treats each day a violation continues, or each separate act, as a distinct offense.
