Full Breakdown

California Labor Code 1182.12 sets a statewide minimum wage indexed to the consumer price index. As of 2026 the rate is $16.50 per hour for all employers regardless of size. Tuolumne County has no local minimum wage ordinance, so Twain Harte cabin operators, motels, restaurants, and ski resort vendors at Dodge Ridge follow the state floor. Industry-specific floors apply: fast-food chains pay $20 under AB 1228 and covered healthcare workers earn $18-$23 under SB 525. Tipped employees receive the full minimum wage; tip credits are not allowed in California. Overtime starts at 8 hours per day or 40 per week.

Violations & Fines

Underpaying wages, missed overtime, or missing wage statement details exposes employers to Labor Commissioner claims and treble damages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the fast-food $20 rate apply locally?
It applies to chains with 60+ U.S. locations sharing a brand. A standalone Twain Harte burger shop pays the $16.50 statewide minimum.
