Truckee, CA Environmental Rules: Erosion Control (2026)

Title 11 of the Truckee Municipal Code, the Stormwater Quality Ordinance, governs erosion and sediment control on construction sites. 010(B), Wet Season and Emergency Site Stabilization, requires every site to be stabilized with erosion-control BMPs 48 hours before a wet weather event, requires soil-disturbing work to stop once wet weather arrives, and requires the responsible party to field-check temporary BMPs before and after every storm, weekly, and every 24 hours during storms lasting more than 48 hours. Sites must be winterized before the wet season begins, with all BMPs inspected for proper function no later than October 15.

010(B)(5) goes further: any ground disturbance subject to the Town's grading requirements, including vegetation removal that disturbs soil, is prohibited outright during the wet season unless a variance is approved. A wet-season variance is available only for low-erosivity sites: slope under 10 percent, more than 250 feet from a waterbody or watercourse, disturbed area under 10,000 square feet, and a favorable 10-day forecast; commercial variances run 10 days at a time, renewable. 010(C) adds temporary-measure requirements during construction itself, including silt fences, waddles, tackifier on stockpiles, and dust control, all of which must stay in place until the site is permanently stabilized. 040(E) showing BMP locations and installation details. 050(M).
