Walton County, GA Environmental Rules: Vehicle Idling Restrictions (2026)

Section 6-1-610 of the Land Development Ordinance governs outdoor storage of commercial vehicles, a use allowed as a conditional use in the B2 district and by right in B3, M1 and M2 districts, covering operational trucks, trailers, antique cars and similar vehicles kept outdoors on such a site. m. The rule carries a location-based exception: it does not apply if the site is located in an industrial park and is not within one hundred feet of any single-family dwelling, and it separately exempts the use of refrigerant compressors regardless of location.

The idling limit sits alongside the section's other outdoor commercial vehicle storage standards, which require direct access to an arterial road, a paved storage base of at least six inches of #57 stone topped with three inches of crusher run, screening of the storage area from adjacent residential properties and public streets with a building or an eight-foot opaque wall or fence, and a bar on any vehicle maintenance, washing or repair taking place on-site. Because the idling rule is written into the use standards for commercial vehicle outdoor storage specifically, it applies to properties operating under that use classification rather than to vehicle idling generally across the county.
