Irving Ch. 15 requires fences to be rigid, weather-resistant construction of approved materials. Metal posts required for new wood fences. All fences must be maintained in safe, presentable condition.
Irving's Land Development Code Chapter 15 sets general requirements for all fences. Fences must be of rigid construction using approved materials that can support the fencing materials and resist weather and decay. Metal posts are required when constructing new or replacement wood fences, though wood posts may be used for replacement fences when reinforced with intermediate metal posts. Fences must be maintained in a safe, presentable, sound structural condition at all times. The finished or decorative side of the fence should face outward. Fences must not obstruct sight lines at street intersections or driveways. All fence construction requires a $125 permit from the Inspections Department.
Unmaintained fences may be cited. Fines and required repair or removal for non-compliant fences.
