Fort Bend County does not regulate fence heights in unincorporated areas. The county has not adopted zoning ordinances and does not issue Certificates of Occupancy. Cities (Sugar Land, Missouri City, Richmond) set their own fence height limits by municipal code.
Per Fort Bend County Engineering, the county has not adopted zoning ordinances, so there is no county-wide fence height limit for residential or agricultural fences. Texas Local Gov't Code Ch. 233 limits county zoning authority outside city ETJs. Boundary fence disputes between neighbors fall under Tex. Property Code §§26.001-26.003. Deed restrictions and HOAs commonly impose private height limits (typically 6 ft rear/side, 3-4 ft front). Inside city limits, municipal codes apply: Sugar Land's Land Development Code Ch. 2 sets height/area regulations; Missouri City and Richmond have their own caps.
