Full Breakdown

In Hanford's R-L, R-M, R-H, OR, O, and PF zone districts, Hanford Municipal Code § 17.50.120 limits fences and walls to 7 feet along rear lot lines, 7 feet along interior side lines starting 10 feet back from the front, 3 feet along front lot lines (4 feet if the top foot is at least 50% open), and 7 feet along a corner lot's street-side line starting 25 feet back. Section 17.50.110(C) separately bans any hedge, shrub, fence, or wall over 3 feet (4 feet if 50%+ open) within the 25-foot corner sight triangle or where it creates a traffic hazard. Any masonry fence over 3 feet, or any other fence over 7 feet, needs engineered footings and a building permit under § 17.50.110(B).

Violations & Fines

A fence built taller than these zone limits, placed in the public right-of-way, or obstructing the corner sight triangle is a zoning violation enforceable by the Code Enforcement Officer with an administrative citation and removal order under Chapter 17.94.
