Houston County, GA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 64.2 of the Comprehensive Land Development Regulations, titled Vision Clearance, governs corner fence height in unincorporated Houston County. It applies in every zoning district except C-3, Concentrated Commercial, and prohibits any fence, wall, shrubbery, sign, marquee, or other obstruction to vision between the heights of two and one-half feet and ten feet from ground level within twenty-five feet of the intersection of the right-of-way lines of two streets, or of a street intersection with a railroad line. The rule targets the sight triangle drivers need at intersections rather than setting a blanket cap on fence height across an entire yard; the code does not state a separate front, side, or rear yard fence-height limit elsewhere in Article VI.

Elsewhere in the same article, fence height requirements appear only for specific accessory or special-exception uses, such as the four-foot fence required to enclose an outdoor play area for a day care special exception under Section 71.2.3(4), and the six-foot screening fence required around vehicle impoundment areas tied to auto body shops and excavating operations. Section 64.1, immediately preceding the vision clearance rule, separately limits curb cuts to no more than fifty feet in length and bars them within twenty feet of a street intersection, reinforcing that Section 64 as a whole is aimed at protecting sightlines and safe access at intersections rather than regulating residential privacy fencing generally.
