Kansas City fence heights are governed by Chapter 27 of the Code of Ordinances. Maximum height is 4 feet in front and street-side yards, and 6 feet in interior side and rear yards.
Under KCMO Code Chapter 27 (Fences and Walls), residential fences may not exceed 4 feet in height in the front yard and street-side yard on corner lots, and may not exceed 6 feet in the interior side and rear yards. These are the baseline limits; additional restrictions may apply in historic districts, planned unit developments (PUDs), or overlay zones. Fences must be maintained in good condition; leaning, deteriorated, or hazardous fences are subject to code enforcement.
Non-compliant fences are subject to code violation notice and abatement orders; fines if not corrected.
