McKinney Zoning Ordinance allows 8 ft rear and side-yard fences and 4 ft front-yard fences in residential districts. Corner lots have sight-triangle restrictions limiting front/side height to 3 ft near intersections.
Per the McKinney Unified Development Code, residential fence heights are measured from natural grade. Rear and interior side yards may be fenced up to 8 ft, front yards to 4 ft solid or 6 ft if at least 50 percent open (wrought iron, picket with gaps). Historic district homes near the Square have additional Heritage Preservation review for fence design. Retaining walls do not count toward fence height.
Unpermitted over-height fences must be reduced or removed; 200 to 1,000 civil penalty plus possible removal at owner expense.
