Meriden, CT Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 213-48 gathers the 'supplementary lot, yard, height and building regulations' that apply on top of each district's own dimensional table, so the four-foot front-yard cap in Subsection F(2) reaches every zoning district in Meriden, not just residential ones, unless another section specifically overrides it. The visibility rule in Subsection F(1) is broader than a simple height cap: it bars any 'structure, wall, fence, shrubbery or trees' that 'unreasonably or dangerously obstructs or interferes with the visibility of drivers,' and sets a clear-sight zone between 2 1/2 feet and seven feet above the street grade within 25 feet of where two street lines meet at a corner.

That means a fence could be under four feet and still violate Subsection F(1) if it sits inside that 25-foot corner triangle and blocks the sightline band. Side and rear yard fences are not capped by this subsection at all, so Meriden's four-foot limit is a front-yard-only rule; a taller fence in a side or rear yard is governed instead by each district's own fence provisions and by the pool-fence rule in Section 213-44(D), which sets its own four-foot minimum for pool enclosures regardless of yard location.
