Pinal County, AZ Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

100 sets Pinal County's fence rules by location rather than a single flat height cap. On corner lots, any fence over 24 inches tall is barred from the sight visibility triangle, the sightline area planners protect so drivers can see cross traffic. In front yards, along the front and sides of the front setback, the county waives its normal setback requirements for three specific fence types: open fencing 5 feet or less in height, fencing 5 feet or less where everything above 3 feet is open style, or fencing up to 6 feet built of pipe rail or wrought iron (gates on that last type can run up to 8 feet).

For side and rear yards, any fence or wall-type fence of 6 feet or less is exempt from the title's setback requirements outright, so most residential perimeter fencing in Pinal County tops out at 6 feet by design even though the code does not state that number as a universal ceiling. Commercial, office and industrial parcels get more flexibility: the planning director may exempt fences or walls taller than 6 feet from zone setback requirements case by case. The same section also regulates materials and safety regardless of height: fences may use wood, metal rail, wire or chain link approved by the planning director; electrified fencing is barred except for livestock enclosures in rural zones; barbed wire is barred except in rural and industrial zones; and no fence may incorporate broken glass, tires, junk, scrap or hazardous material.

Wall-type fences may be built of concrete, stone, brick, tile or mosaic glass, but broken glass used as a deterrent on top of a wall is prohibited under the same subsection. The section derives from Ordinance No. 011812-ZO-PZ-C-007-10, § 11.
