Orangeburg County, SC Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Table 6 of the Zoning Ordinance (Appendix A), which sets setback modifications for accessory uses, treats fences and walls as an accessory use governed by Note (B). That note lets a fence or wall sit in any required front, side, corner-lot or rear yard along a property line, provided it meets the visibility standard cross-referenced in the note and does not exceed six feet in height. An opaque fence, one that blocks the view through it, cannot go up in a front yard setback unless the Zoning Administrator first approves it; a see-through fence such as open picket or standard chain link is not subject to that approval step.

6, Visibility at Intersections: no planting, fence, wall or other structure may be built between a height of two and a half feet and ten feet above the curb (or street centerline where there is no curb) inside the triangular sight-clearance area formed by the two intersecting street right-of-way lines and a connecting line between them, as shown on the county's site-triangle and vertical-vision-clearance illustration.
