Rancho Cucamonga Development Code caps residential fences at 3 feet in front yards and 6 feet in rear and side yards. Corner lots and VHFHSZ foothill parcels have additional visibility and material rules.
The Rancho Cucamonga Development Code regulates fence height based on yard location. Fences, walls, and hedges in the front yard setback area are limited to 3 feet in height to maintain street visibility and neighborhood character. In side and rear yards, fences may reach a maximum of 6 feet. Corner lot fences within a 25-foot sight-triangle at the intersection are limited to 3 feet to protect driver visibility. On slopes or retaining situations, the combined height of a retaining wall and fence on top may be limited to 8 feet total with special design review. Block-wall perimeter fencing is standard across master-planned communities like Victoria, Terra Vista, and Etiwanda; HOAs usually require a specific stucco color and cap detail. Taller fences (up to 8 feet) may be permitted with a Variance or Minor Exception from Planning. Homes within the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ) in the Etiwanda/Alta Loma foothills are required to use noncombustible fencing materials within 5 feet of structures per CA Board of Forestry rules.
