Sparks allows fences and walls up to 6 feet in any zoning district. In front and street-side setbacks, fences top out at 3 feet, or 4 feet if at least 50 percent open construction.
Sparks Municipal Code Section 20.04.004 sets fence and wall heights by location. Fences six feet or less are permitted in any zoning district unless they create a sight-visibility problem. Within a required front yard or exterior street-facing side setback, a fence may not exceed three feet, increasing to four feet only when at least 50 percent open in construction. Residential fences may reach six feet in an exterior side yard where the Administrator finds no visibility issue. Corner lots must keep sight triangles clear. Concrete masonry block walls are the regional standard for durability in high-desert heat and wind.
Code Enforcement issues a correction notice for a non-compliant fence, and the owner must lower or remove it. Continued violations draw administrative fines and, for setback obstructions, abatement.
