Spokane allows fences up to 7 feet in rear and side yards and 3 feet in front yards under SMC 17C.110.230. Corner lot visibility triangles require lower heights.
Under SMC 17C.110.230, fence heights in residential zones are capped at 7 feet in side and rear yards and 3 feet in required front yards. Fences up to 4 feet are allowed in front yards if they are at least 50 percent transparent (picket or wrought iron). On corner lots, any fence within a 20-foot vision triangle at the intersection must not exceed 3 feet. Sport courts (tennis, pickleball) can have 10-foot fences with conditional review. Fences taller than 7 feet are treated as walls and require a building permit and engineering review. Commercial and industrial zones allow up to 8 feet with razor wire prohibited.
Fences exceeding allowed height are a zoning violation; typical notice to correct or 100 to 500 dollar fines.
