Temecula, CA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

050(I) of the Temecula Development Code, governing residential zoning districts, sets the fence, hedge, and wall standards. A solid fence, hedge, or wall inside the required front setback is capped at 3 feet to preserve visibility for pedestrians and vehicles entering and exiting driveways. A taller combination fence, up to 6 feet, is allowed in a front yard, corner, side yard, or visibility clearance area only if at least 90 percent of its top 3 feet is open and non-view-obscuring; chain link fencing is prohibited outright in these areas, with or without privacy slats.

Outside those areas, in other setbacks such as interior side and rear yards, fences, walls, and any fencing stacked on top of a wall are capped at 6 feet, measured from the lowest point of finished grade at the fence location. An exception exists for sports facilities: ball field and tennis court fencing may reach 12 feet if set back at least 5 feet from the property line. 050(J), Site Visibility, separately governs corner lots: nothing may be placed or allowed to grow in the corner cut-off area higher than 36 inches above the top of curb if it obstructs vehicle or pedestrian sightlines, with the visibility triangle measured from the curb return on each side of the curb radius and sized 15 feet for a local street or alley intersection and 25 feet for a collector or arterial intersection.
