Full Breakdown
Countywide, in any zoning district, fences and walls may not be electrified or carry broken glass, spikes, nails, barbed wire, razors, or any other material designed to cause pain or injury. Barbed wire is allowed only atop fencing for specific non-residential uses such as prisons, utility plants, and self-storage, and electrified fencing only for uses like agriculture, contractor storage yards, and utilities, each under detailed screening, height, and setback standards in the code. This applies only to unincorporated Palm Beach County; West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and Jupiter set their own fence rules.
Violations & Fines
Building Division enforcement; non-conforming dangerous materials must be removed before a Certificate of Completion issues for any electrified fence, and unpermitted barbed wire or electrified fencing outside the listed allowable uses is a code violation subject to removal.
