Section 28-1356 of the Boca Raton Code of Ordinances governs fences, walls, gates, and hedges. In residential districts, fences near streets require landscape buffers of shrubs planted along the street side with maximum 3-foot spacing on center. Barbed wire, razor wire, and electrified fencing are prohibited in residential zones. A building permit is required when the fence serves as a safety barrier for a swimming pool. Construction fences of 6 feet may be placed on property lines during active construction with a building permit.
Fences without required landscaping or with prohibited materials may result in code enforcement notices. Contact Code Enforcement at 561-393-7934.
