Residential zoning districts let you put a fence anywhere on the lot, including on the property line, with height caps of 4 feet in front yards (6 feet for an open ornamental metal fence) and up to 6 feet in side and rear yards. But s. 295-505-4-f-14 flatly bans barbed-wire, concertina-wire and razor-wire fences in those districts: there's no permit, setback or height workaround. That's tighter than Milwaukee's own industrial districts, where controlled barbed wire is allowed atop a fence at least 6 feet above grade and away from residential buffers. A homeowner with old barbed wire on the property line has to take it down.
