Sanger prohibits barbed wire, razor wire, and electrified fencing in residential zones. Standard residential fence materials include wood, vinyl, chain link, wrought iron, and masonry block. Temporary construction fencing requires a permit for extended use.
The Sanger Municipal Code restricts certain fencing materials in residential zoning districts. Barbed wire is prohibited in residential zones but may be permitted in agricultural and industrial zones where livestock containment or security is needed. Razor wire and concertina wire are prohibited in all residential areas. Electrified fencing is not permitted in residential zones. Chain link fencing is allowed but some newer subdivisions may restrict it through CC&Rs. Acceptable residential fence materials include wood (cedar, redwood, pressure-treated lumber), vinyl/PVC, wrought iron, tubular steel, concrete masonry units (CMU block), and decorative stone or brick. Corrugated metal, sheet metal, and salvaged materials used as fencing may be cited as blight conditions. Temporary construction fencing such as orange safety fencing or chain link panels must be removed upon project completion. The Sanger Municipal Code also addresses fences in agricultural transition zones on the city's eastern edge where agricultural fencing standards may apply.
Prohibited fencing materials such as barbed wire in residential zones result in removal orders. Blight-condition fencing receives code enforcement notices with a compliance period. Failure to comply may result in administrative fines and abatement proceedings.
