Annapolis, MD Fence Regulations: Fence Permit Requirements (2026)

City Code § 17.34.010 bars erecting, placing, maintaining, altering, or replacing any fence or wall, and removing more than 400 feet of an existing fence, until a complete application is submitted and a permit is issued by the Department of Planning and Zoning. The application must include a scaled drawing showing the proposed location, dimensions, relationship to property lines, existing structures, trees over five inches in diameter within three feet, and steep topography, plus construction drawings or photos of the design and materials. Work must start within 30 days of issuance and finish within 120 days, or the Director revokes the permit. Fences must also meet the standards in Zoning Code § 21.60.070.
