Pool fences in Pittsburg must meet California Health & Safety Code Β§115920-115929 standards: minimum 60-inch height, self-closing and self-latching gates, no climbable features, and two approved safety features for pools built after 2007.
Pool enclosure requirements in Pittsburg follow California Health & Safety Code §§115920-115929 (Swimming Pool Safety Act) and are enforced through the Building Division at the time of pool permit issuance. All private residential pools must be enclosed by a barrier at least 60 inches (5 feet) in height as measured from the ground on the outside of the barrier. Openings must not allow passage of a 4-inch sphere, and there can be no climbable footholds on the outside face. Gates must open outward away from the pool, be self-closing, self-latching, and have the release mechanism at least 54 inches above the ground. For pools constructed, reconstructed, or having permits applied for after January 1, 2007, at least two of the following seven drowning prevention safety features are required: approved enclosure, removable mesh fencing with self-closing gate, approved safety cover, alarms on doors leading to the pool area, self-closing/self-latching devices on those doors, pool alarm, or other equivalent protection. Real estate disclosure at time of sale is required. Spas with locking safety covers meeting ASTM F1346 are exempted from some fence requirements. Virginia Graeme Baker federal act requires compliant drain covers.
