Pittsburg does not impose STR-specific parking requirements, so hosts must rely on the general residential off-street parking rules in the Zoning Ordinance. Single-family homes typically must provide two covered off-street parking spaces, and STR guests should park on the driveway or in the garage rather than blocking streets. Overnight on-street parking is subject to the statewide 72-hour rule under California Vehicle Code 22651(k).
Under the Pittsburg Zoning Ordinance, single-family dwellings in most residential zones must provide at least two off-street parking spaces, one of which is typically required to be in a garage or carport. Multifamily units have their own parking ratios. These standards apply to the dwelling itself rather than to any specific short-term rental use, and Pittsburg has not added an STR guest parking requirement. Hosts should instruct guests to park in the driveway or garage and avoid blocking sidewalks, driveways of adjacent properties, or fire hydrants. California Vehicle Code section 22500 prohibits parking in front of driveways, on sidewalks, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, or in other hazardous locations. Section 22651(k) authorizes towing of any vehicle parked in the same location on a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours. Complaints from neighbors about guest parking congestion are one of the most common triggers for STR code enforcement action in California cities. Some HOAs restrict overnight guest parking to designated visitor spots, and CC&Rs may have stricter rules than the city. AB 2097 (2022) prohibits cities from requiring parking minimums for developments within half a mile of major transit, but this rule applies to new developments, not existing single-family STR operations.
