Sahuarita, AZ Fire Regulations: Fire Pit Rules (2026)

Residential fire pits in Sahuarita are permitted under International Fire Code provisions adopted by the Sahuarita Fire District. Recreational fires must be contained in a non-combustible fire pit or ring no larger than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height. Fire pits must be placed at least 25 feet from structures, property lines, and combustible materials. Only clean, dry wood or manufactured fire logs should be burned. Burning of trash, yard waste, painted wood, or treated lumber is prohibited. During Red Flag Warning days declared by the National Weather Service for the Tucson metro area, all outdoor fires may be banned by the fire district. The Sonoran Desert climate creates elevated fire risk during the dry pre-monsoon season from April through June when humidity drops and winds increase. Portable propane fire pits and gas-fueled fire features are generally considered lower risk and may have fewer restrictions than wood-burning pits. A fire extinguisher, garden hose, or other suppression tool must be readily available. Rancho Sahuarita HOA may have additional architectural review requirements for permanent fire pit installations.
