Darlington County, SC Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 26-1(a) makes it unlawful to sell, possess, discharge or use any fireworks, bombs, rockets, firecrackers or any other similar substances at the times and places the section specifies, rather than everywhere in the county at all times. Subsection (b) fixes the first restricted zone: the ban covers the Darlington International Raceway and any location within a radius of one mile of its grandstand, running for the 24-hour period immediately prior to a scheduled public event and continuing until 24 hours after the event ends, so the restriction tracks each race weekend rather than staying in force year-round.

Subsection (c) lets the county council apply the same sale, possession, discharge or use ban to other areas during a large public assembly, provided the county gives notice by posting signs along the major roadway at the periphery of the restricted area indicating the ban. Chapter 26 sets no separate dollar penalty for a Section 26-1 violation, so the county's general penalty provision, Section 1-8, controls: any Code violation with no specific penalty of its own is subject to a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or both, and each day a violation continues is a separate offense.
